LOCAL



The Highland Scots came out strong after suffering a defeat in their first game against Yorktown. The Scots played Westfield well and forced the Shamrocks into 18 turnovers. Led by senior forward Grant Fulton and junior guard Jay Mohr, the Scots beat the Shamrocks 71-64. Fulton finished with 26 points and 8 rebounds while Mohr finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.


STATE

Jacobus Tielen is going to have to pay a large settlement. He has been convicted of breaking environmental management laws and has been fined $21,000 already. He is said to have had many manure spills causing deaths of wildlife and has his farm too close to the nearby lagoon. Tielen's settlement negotiation is scheduled for later this week.

NATIONAL








In Nashville, TN, a cat owner was overwhelmed with joy when she finally found her cat. Her cat, wild oats, had gotten a peanut butter jar stuck on its head but the owners couldn't get it off because the cat kept running away. They finally caught it with a fishing net and got the jar off with some oil. The cat survived off its excess fat for a full 19 days.


WORLD







A British teacher is being arrested over a teddy bear. Gillian Gibbons is being detained after she let her fourth grade class name a classroom teddy bear Mohammad. She is a teacher in Sudan and the British government believes that they should be able to deal with it. However, the Sudanese government is taking care of it and the outcome does not look favorable for Gibbons.


HEALTH
Around Christmas time, more toys are bought than any other time of the year. Which also means there are more hazards brought into the home. Parents are recommended to shop with a list of recalled toys, toys with sharp objects, or toys that shoot projectiles into the air. This year kids will be safe. But no one is going to have fun.






SPORTS


With only a few weeks left in the season, the Inianapolis Colts pull out another victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Peyton Manning had a stellar performance throwing for 4 touchdowns and only one pick. With this divisional win, the Colts are almost guaranteed to win the division and will definitely be a high seed in the playoffs.

BUSINESS




"Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock" is projected to be the best selling interactive music game created up to this point. The creaters at Red Octane (makers of Guitar Hero) did not change the gameplay much. However, after "Guitar Hero II" was such a hit, gamers are looking for new songs and different challenges. Look out "Donkey Konga" there's a new sheriff in town.

TECHNOLOGY



There may be a new remedy for global warming. A company called Skyonic is coming out with a new system called Skymine which could largely reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide released in the smoke from factories and the heat waste from them could be used to power factories making baking soda. The only question that remains is, why do we need all this baking soda?

ELECTION '08


Barrack Obama is finally trying to play the race card. In his recent trip to Harlem, he wooed many African American voters with his plans if elected. He says that if he is elected he would fight harder than any other president to end racial discrimination and injustice. Obama says that we won't wake up after 4 years and still find more black men in prison than in college.



IRAQ

Turkey recently came out and declared that it had attacked 50 or 60 Kurdish rebels within the borders of Iraq. Whether or not the United States was informed of this attack is yet to be released but American Intelligence had been promised to Turkey's military. The attack came a day after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the government had authorized the military to launch a cross-border offensive against guerillas from the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, based in northern Iraq at any time.

LOCAL


Jeremy Bishop of Anderson was accused of four different accounts of molestation. He was convicted of molesting two girls, 8 and 7, on more than one occasion. Bishop then threatened to beat the older girl if she ever told anyone about the molestation. She finally told and Bishop is now being held on a $35,000 bail.

STATE

A large tanker truck was carrying 6,000 gallons of liquified hog manure tipped over the other day. Approximately 2,500 gallons spilled out onto the side of Indiana 67. The environmental department said damage to the surrounding area was minimal and most waste will be able to be scooped up and spread across nearby fields as fertilizer.


NATIONAL










A man from Northville Township, Detroit has recently mangled another man's body. Daniel Sorensen was a registered sex offender that had been very "troubled" his entire life. He was then confronted by another individual who took him into the woods. Sorensen was decapitated and the corpse was scorched. The murderer is yet to be discovered.




WORLD

This past Thursday, Yemen tribesmen attacked an oil industry in San'a. This skirmish with government troops left 6 tribesmen and 6 troops dead. This is thought to be the work of Al Qaeda. Attacks like these on Yemen oil has caused oil prices to skyrocket and the country's economy is suffering because of it.

HEALTH








A young girl in Bangalore, India was born with 4 arms and 4 legs recently. She underwent 48 hours of surgery and is now doing very well. Many Indian natives are believing that she was a goddess that had been reincarnated into the form of a child. Her father was nervous about his daughter even before she was born but is now looking forward to seeing her with a normal body.




SPORTS

The Indianapolis Colts suffered another loss this past Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. The Colts looked pitiful as Darren Sproles had both a kick off and punt return for touchdowns. Peyton Manning went on to throw 6 interceptions, but they mounted a comeback late in the second half. The Colts had an opportunity for a last second field goal but Adam Vinatieri missed the 29-yarder, costing them the game.

ELECTION '08





Hillary Clinton has made some bold statements. While Obama was saying that he would raise the income ceiling from $97,000 to $102,000 to increase social security, Clinton is attempting to completely remove the "ceiling." She says if people make that much money, then they are doing well enough to pay a higher tax. She also vows that the government will stop borrowing from the Social Security fund.









BUSINESS

For years the rumors of an Ultralight MacBook was just around the corner. But this year is just like any other: no such luck. However, there are some people highly involved in the Apple company that are now claiming that there should be a brand new product that will blow your mind coming soon. Apple, once again, has people hooked.




AFGHANISTAN


All F-15s in Afghanistan have been grounded. Due to a recent crash, the Air Force has prohibited and United States aircraft to fly to or from Afghanistan. The crash is still under investigation and when that is finished, the planes may be able to take off once again.



TECHNOLOGY

The glorious iPhone may be a major problem for Apple. People are beginning to discover that there are very harmful substances in the phone and headphones. When scientists took apart one of these phones, they found excess amounts of Bromine as well as other substances. This could cause major setbacks for Apple and possibly financial problems.

Walter Murphy was imprisoned recently by a Madison County Courthouse. He feels like he had been wrongfully accused and decided to write a letter showing his discontent. In this letter he makes the outlandish claim that he intends to kill every Madison County Superior Court Judges. He says he will do so in the same way people were killed in D.C.: by sniper rifles.

STATE

A Bedford judge was found dead recently and the cause is now almost perfectly clear. Judge Richard D. McIntyre was found in a detached garage, killed by carbon monoxide poisoning. The coroner, John Sherill, is now claiming that the death was suicidal. This is a big loss because McIntyre had been a judge for nearly 20 years and was a congressional candidate.

A boy in Flagstaff, Arizona was left 6 miles short of his stop on the way home from school. The bus driver was a substitute and left the unaware little boy a long walk back to his house. The boy's mother was peeved at the school and now refuses to use school transportation unless drastic changes are made.

WORLD









Russia is banning the German airline, Lufthansa, from flying over them. This will divert all flights to Kazahkstan which is a major inconvenience for the airlines. It will take almost 3 extra hours as well as over 600,000 extra liters of fuel. It is not economically nor environmentally a good move.

ELECTION '08







Barack Obama is losing voters. Since the debates have started between he and Clinton, he has been nothing but timid. His advisors have told him to be more direct with his criticisims, but it hasn't been working. Hilary keeps avoiding her flaws due to Obama's weak attacks. This is causing him to lose voters rapidly and will ultimately defeat him before the election even starts if he can't buck up.

SPORTS






In one of the biggest single games in National Football League history, the hype was lived up to. The Patriots, however, defeated the Colts 24-20. It was a battle back and forth but Manning's turnovers proved to be costly mistakes as the Pats capitalized off both of them with scores. While Brady threw 2 interceptions, his defense added the extra help needed to become the only unbeaten team up to this point.

HEALTH





A student at Pendleton High School was found to have MRSA last week. This worries much of the school board in central Indiana. The principal at PHHS says that the student (who remains unnamed) had recently transferred and it is unlikely that the MRSA was contracted at the school. Regardless though, many parents of Indiana are becoming worried and precautions are being made.

BUSINESS




Alex Rodriguez recently opted out of a healthy salary and contract with the New York Yankees. He was tired of the organization and did not want to be a Yankee any longer. This action will cost him over $70 million and a guaranteed job. While many teams are making offers, he just passed on a $200 million deal with New York. He is now on the free agents list and will remain there until offered a considerable amount of money.

IRAQ



Two weeks ago, Camp Victory was blown up with a missile in Baghdad, Iraq. About a week later, the alleged suspect was caught and is currently being detained. He was found in the Iraq Ministry of Agriculture with 3 cohorts who are fellow terrorists. The four men are now being intensely interrogated and will likely be convicted.
